Own a piece of West Australian history with this authentic Wiluna Meteorite. Unlike many meteorites that are found centuries after they land, the Wiluna is a witnessed fall, meaning it was seen streaking across the sky before being recovered. On the night of September 2, 1967, a brilliant fireball lit up the sky over the remote township of Wiluna in Western Australia, followed by loud sonic "crackling" and "hissing" sounds that were heard by nearly the entire local population.
This specimen is a complete individual stone recovered from the resulting meteorite shower, which scattered an estimated 500 to 1,000 stones across an 8km area east of the town.
Geological Profile: The H5 Chondrite
The Wiluna meteorite is scientifically classified as an H5 Ordinary Chondrite.
Composition: It is an olivine-bronzite chondrite, rich in iron (approximately 24%) and scattered with small, visible silicate spheres known as chondrules.
Fusion Crust: This specimen typically features a beautiful, dark fusion crust—a "space-charred" skin formed by the intense heat of friction as the rock plummeted through Earth’s atmosphere at supersonic speeds.
Because it was recovered shortly after its fall, the Wiluna meteorite is remarkably fresh and well-preserved, making it a favourite for both researchers and serious collectors.
